Storyboard Annotations

1) Medium shot of a two shot with the doctor on the right dressed in a white shirt and black trousers and the female character on the left, also dressed in a white shirt, each at opposite ends of the table. The woman is looking down at the table, upset. The use of costume and facial features enhances the atmosphere and instantly tells the audience that there is something wrong, setting the narrative for the rest of the video. The curtains filter red light, creating a stylistic effect that connotes danger although the scene is seemingly peaceful and innocent.

2) An over-the-shoulder shot of the doctor telling the female “I’m sorry for your loss”. This again implies why she is upset and the cause of her depression/guilt.

3) An over-the-shoulder shot of the female looking up, replying “It has been really difficult. I’m having trouble sleeping at night.” The facial expression accompanying these words emphasizes their meaning; the absence of colour (apart from the red of the curtains) indicates the loss of feeling and emotion.

4) A close-up depicts the doctor handing the female tablets, telling her to “Take these.” She accepts them which leads onto the next scene.

5) This medium close up of the woman taking the tablets will be filmed on a green screen, so we can use an image of a kitchen as the background and add dissolving effects to symbolize her deteriorating mentality.
6) A close-up of her face, mouth closing, draws the viewer’s attention to the
fact that she has taken the tablet.

7) Another close-up shows her throat swallowing the tablet, again drawing emphasis on the fact that the pills are related to the distorted reality that the character is about to experience.

8) A mid-shot depicts the female character clutching her head as she thrashes her body about. An overlap of the woman performing the same actions makes it seem as though she is two people, or turning into an echo of herself, suggesting madness, whilst the background dissolves and falls down, indicating the start of the twisted reality and her deteriorating mentality.

9) A side-on, medium close up of the woman facing to the left, coughing and slowly lifting her head.

10) Another medium close up pans to the left, depicting the woman looking around to the right, confused and frightened. The audience is forced to pan to the left, whilst the female looks to the right, suggesting confusion and giving a strange, unusual effect. It also emphasises that the audience are only viewing, whereas the female is experiencing it which could draw on the viewer’s feelings of being scared for her.
11) Medium shot of female choking and falling to the floor.
12) Medium shot of the female’s head with a blurred background. Her alternate self is crouched behind, blurred into the background.
13) The same shot but the female’s head is blurred, and the background is in focus (along with her alternate self).
14) Close up of the alternate female raising her head.
